Just Birds

Just some random birds

Just some random birds I photographed while out and about.

I’ve photographed a lot more while visiting the Kruger National Park, these birds are just ones that visited us here in the city.

These birds were sitting on electric cables and as we got closer, got scared and started flying away.

Just some silhouette of a couple of ducks that were flying above me.

A Kingfisher that came to visit our garden.

It was the first time I ever saw, firstly a kingfisher and secondly in the city. Always thought you only find them at lakes and rivers. I’ve actually seen him quite a few times after this. Guess he found a home close by.

If I’m not mistaken this is a Black Shouldered Kite that sat on my wall. It looks like it’s another bird that he caught. Another shocker that I didn’t think you would find in the city.

Now this bird: Burchell’s coucal.

This was another bird that started visiting us. It’s got a beautiful call and I was just in awe of this bird, until one day!

I heard this bird’s call, went outside to look for it and saw it flying into this tree, other smaller birds started going crazy and out came this Burchell’s coucal with a baby bird in it’s mouth, I was disgusted, I didn’t know it also ate other baby birds.

You learn something new every day. Guess it’s nature… and I’m still in awe of this bird and it’s beautiful call.

  1. I have a soft spot for birds, I feel like they are akin to our souls, free to fly in the sky and come to rest on land but when one studies animals closely they too can be mean and cruel.

    1. That is so true, and I do believe animals (doesn’t matter how cruel we think some might be) are much wiser than humans, although we don’t think so. πŸ™‚

    2. πŸ‘πŸ‘Me too.
