Simplify

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.

Hans Hofmann

Such true words. I see this as a way of living a minimalist kind of life. Get rid of the junk that occupy your space, then there will be space to focus on what is important.

I currently see this in my life. My study/studio space is a TOTAL mess, and I need to de-clutter so that I can focus on my photography and art.

Currently it is very overwhelming seeing the mess every day. Need a clean and throw away party!

Do you find that if your ‘space’ is a mess you can’t focus on the important stuff?

  1. I love this quote! I struggle with ‘mess’. I think it is in my nature to make a mess while I create but it’s taken me 50 years to come to terms with the idea of tidying up after my creative spree. I used to be a cartographer in my youth and every day after working we were given the last 10 minutes to tidy our desk. Some time in my 50s it dawned on me that I should allocate 15 minutes at the end of creating each day to make some order. But I know exactly what you mean… I think… We turned our doubts garage into my art studio and workshop area and if I am not careful it can feel terribly overwhelming to deal with the topsy-turvy chaos that I create. I have in the distant past been quite distructive towards my creative space and have had to learn how to stay calm in these situations.

I am really needing to practice that quote in my life.

    1. I use to struggle with mess a kot growing up. But as an adult, having to clean my own house I recently decided its time to scale down with the ‘ junk’.
Finally managed to clear my studio yesterday and now feel more creative already. Should have done that sooner. 🤦‍♂️
I love the idea of giving extra time to clean up afterwards. Much easier to start again the next time. 😃

    2. I am glad you feel more creative now 👍🌈

    3. And me. 😃😃
